MONOKROM...

...is a youth center for ages 13-25 years old. Our primary focus is on music. Since opening in February 2003, Monokrom has become a well established and respected organization within the cultural community of Kalmar, Sweden

To date Monokrom offers:

Band rehearsal space and guidance:

Roughly 30 bands rehearse in our 5 fully equipped rehearsal rooms. Organized Band meetings and mentorship help give guidance and support. We also offer a band building course for those wanting to start a new band but have no previous experience and perhaps need to find some other musicians to play with.

Courses

We offer courses in guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, mandolin, singing, and recording techniques. Did we miss anything? Let us know your interests and ideas. Currently we have 165 students registered for courses at Monokrom.

Recording

Monokrom has 2 recording studios. Every band that rehearses at Monokrom is offered one free recording session (with technician) per year. In our smaller production studio, bands can record themselves year round without a designated technician.

Café

Monokroms café is open Monday to Thursday from 5 pm to 9 pm. The café offers a variety of snacks and beverages at a great price. Wednesdays evenings offer live music, poetry slams, music videos and much more.

Tjejscen (Stage Program for girls)

Tjejscen is a program for females interested in playing and performing on stage. Supported and organized by the Swedish National Board for youth affairs. Goals include increasing the overall number of females using Monokrom's facilities and to expand programs catering to these young women's needs. For more info Click Here

Concerts

We currently have several different groups arranging concerts at Monokrom. These motivated youth have full use of Monokrom concert facilities for free. "Concerts for youth arranged by youth". Monokrom personal arranges live concerts for bands on regular occasions. Opportunity exists for bands to perform in major local festivals, such as Festningen in Kalmar Castle. Exchange programs both nationally and internationally are available to Monokrom bands as well.

International Exchange

During 2007, bands from Monokrom have performed in both Gdansk and Wismar. We are working hard now to develop and grow these band exchange relationships.
